I stumbled onto a compilation of Nigerian music, and one track from 1974 had a driving reggae rhythm and bass line, not particularly African. It was really familiar, but I just couldn’t place it. And just now, several hours later, I realized it’s the bass line to Joe Jackson‘s song, “Beat Crazy,” which came out in 1980.
